We are pleased to share that three new highly requested updates are now live on the Kpler map.
1. Sea ice coverage and forecast layer
Visualize current sea ice coverage and its forecast directly on the map. Ice conditions determine when seasonal routes such as the Northern Sea Route become navigable, which in turn affects voyage times, vessel availability and freight dynamics - especially within the LNG market. You can now monitor present conditions and look ahead at how coverage is expected to change by turning on the ice coverage within the map display settings. We plan to continue to bring more weather intelligence into the map.
To use this filter:
Click on map display settings in the upper right corner of the map interface, the button represented by three dots "..."
Click on ice coverage to turn on the visualization and bring up the forecast time window.
To adjust the forecast, move the slider at the bottom to whichever day you prefer - you can look at the forecast up to 6 days in advance.
2. Last AIS position filter
You can now filter vessels by when they last transmitted an AIS position, from minutes to weeks ago. Within the advanced vessel filter you can now turn on a filter that enables you to:
Identify vessels that have not transmitted an AIS signal within your specified time range selecting between minutes, hours, days, weeks
Identify vessels that have broadcast AIS within a recent defined time range
Spot vessels that have gone quiet, remove stale positions from the map and get a clearer picture of current vessel activity. Another highly requested addition.
To use this filter:
Open the advanced vessel filter on the top right of the map.
Click the toggle on the Last AIS filter to turn it on.
Define your choice of either viewing vessels that have not signaled AIS in a certain recent period of time - or vice versa - vessels that have signaled AIS in a recent period of time. You can define this by minutes, hours, days, or weeks.
3. Speed (knots) filter
Now you can filter for a custom speed range in knots on the map via the advanced vessel filter in order to narrow the map to the vessels that adhere to a certain speed that you want to see, making vessel discovery faster and more precise.
To use this filter:
Open the advanced vessel filter on the top right of the map interface.
Under the speed (knots) filter, choose a desired range of speed to filter the vessels on the map.
