6 October 2026 - Chartering: Shipping zones & bulk vessel exclusion in Tonnage list

What's new in Chartering Tonnage list

Written by Isabella Koustas Murcia

Two updates are now live in Tonnage list. A new set of shipping zones makes it easier to search the areas you trade in, and map-based vessel actions let you hide irrelevant vessels directly from the map.

1. Shipping Zones in Tonnage Lists

Overview

The broad legacy zones in Tonnage Lists have been replaced with 80+ shipping zones. They are drawn around the trading areas that brokers and charterers actually use and recognise, so the vessels you expect come back for the area you search.

What's new

  • 80+ shipping zones replace the broad legacy zones.

  • Zones roll up into familiar groupings such as UK/Cont, Med and Far East. Searching a wider area returns every vessel in the zones beneath it.

  • Nearly 4,000 ports, key anchorages and major inland waterways are mapped into the new structure.

  • Everyday location names are mapped to the new zones. The names used in your position lists and search areas carry across, so your existing lists and searches keep working.

  • The Open Locations filter shows each zone's polygon, so you can see exactly what you are selecting.

Why we made this change

"Shipping zones" are not a defined industry standard. Every desk draws the lines slightly differently, and the same area often goes by several names. The challenge was not drawing polygons. It was turning that inconsistency into a structure that feels intuitive and still catches everything. That meant working with hundreds of location names from circulars, thousands of ports, rivers feeding into sea areas, and zones that sit inside larger groupings.

This is a fundamental step towards a clean, intuitive breakdown of the world's key shipping areas for chartering. On Tonnage Lists, you get the vessels you expect for the area you search, and you reach an actionable list faster.

Where to find it

In Tonnage Lists, shipping zones appear in:

  • Vessel location labels

  • The Open Zone & Group by Zone column

  • The Open Locations filter

How to use it

  1. Open your Tonnage List by clicking the "+" button.

  2. Open the Open Locations filter.

  3. Select a zone to search a specific trading area, or select a wider grouping (for example, UK/Cont) to include every zone beneath it.

  4. Check the zone polygon shown in the filter to confirm the area covers what you need.

  5. Use Group by Zone to organise your list by area.

FAQs

Will my existing lists and searches still work?
Yes. The location names you use every day are mapped to the new zones, so existing lists and searches carry across.

What happens if I select a wider group such as Med?
You get every vessel in all the zones within that group.

Can I see exactly where a zone starts and ends?
Yes. The Open Locations filter displays each zone's polygon.

2. Hide Vessels from the Map in Tonnage Lists

Overview

Map-based vessel actions are now live in Chartering Tonnage Lists. Getting from a full list to a shortlist often means filtering out irrelevant vessels, again and again, on every list. You can now do this directly on the map. The map is no longer only a visual aid, it is now a tool for working your list.

What's new

  • Hide a single vessel from the map. Select it and hide it in two clicks.

  • Hide a group of vessels with a polygon. Draw a polygon on the map to select several vessels, then hide them in one action.

  • Hide by Open Zone. One click hides every vessel grouped under a zone (for example, MEG or West Africa).

  • Unhide in one click. Hidden vessels share the same state as the table view, so a vessel hidden on the map is also hidden in the table, and the reverse.

Why we made this change

Brokers spend a lot of time mentally filtering out vessels that are not relevant. Hiding what you do not need right from the map gets you to a workable list quicker.

Where to find it

Tonnage Lists, in both the table view and the map/list view.

How to use it

Hide one vessel

  1. Open your Tonnage List and switch to the map view.

  2. Select the vessel on the map.

  3. Choose Hide.

Hide several vessels at once

  1. On the map, use the polygon tool to draw around the vessels you want to remove.

  2. Review the selection.

  3. Choose Hide to remove them all in one action.

Hide a whole zone

  1. Choose the Open Zone you want to remove (for example, MEG or West Africa).

  2. Select the hide action for that zone to hide every vessel grouped under it.

Unhide vessels
Unhide is always one click away. Because the state is shared with the table view, unhiding in either place restores the vessel in both.

FAQs

If I hide a vessel on the map, is it hidden in the table too?
Yes. The hidden state is the same across the table and map views.

Can I undo hiding?
Yes. Unhide is always one click away.
