Post the recent launch of Power Outages and based on invaluable feedback from a survey among our LNG users, we've developed the S&D balance feature. This article elucidates the comprehensive attributes and functionalities of the S&D page within the Power domain.

1. Default Page Overview

  • Country Selection: The default setting is geared towards Germany.

  • Power Plants Availability: Users can delve into both past data and forward projections. On the map interface, data can be projected up to the forthcoming 2 years.

  • Demand (Power Consumption): This offers insights into power consumption at a national scale.

  • Query-Centric Dates: By default, dates are anchored around the time of your query, specifically set to a 3-month period. This design facilitates visibility around power availability relative to the connection date.

2. Basic Filtering Capabilities

  • Time Period Suggestions: Suggestions (e.g., 1 month, 1 year) pivot around the present moment. If users are inclined towards past data or specific dates, the calendar tool aids in customization.

  • Country Display: Currently, only a singular country's data can be showcased at once.

  • Fuel Type Filter: Users can narrow down insights by selecting one or more fuel types.

3. Augmenting the View with Additional Metrics

  • Generation Data Integration: Using the left panel, incorporate generation data. Decide between plotting solely availability, generation, or both.

  • Incorporating Price Info: With the “Price” toggle, integrate information about the Day Ahead (or SPOT) auction price – the cornerstone for Power market pricing.

4. Seasonal View Insights

  • The seasonal view activates only when a single metric is highlighted per chart. The filter is enabled for:

    • Availability (for all or particular fuel types) combined with demand.

5. The Highlight: Availability Point in Time (PiT) Analysis

  • This salient feature facilitates a comparison between the most recent availability (denoted as “now”) and data from a previous date. For the PiT curve, data is captured precisely at midnight UTC of the specified date.

  • Optimal Usage: This feature thrives when the sole metric selected on the left panel is availability.

The S&D balance feature is not just an upgrade; it's a transformative tool, paving the way for our forthcoming Kpler availability module. This will endeavor to predict power availabilities spanning from a week to years ahead, ensuring you stay ahead of the curve.
