Notifications

The Kpler power analytics suite now offers the ability to be notified when specific events occur. These include power plant outages and fuel availability changes. To create a notification, use the button on the top right of the Power workspace.

Plant outage notifications

Setup and configuration

To be notified when plant outages occur, toggle to the Outage tab after you've clicked "Create Notification".

The filters allow you to configure:

  1. Zones to include

  2. Specific fuel types to include

  3. Outage type: planned or unplanned

  4. Monitoring horizon, from 1 week up to 2 years

    • Optional Intraday mode: notifications trigger only if the outage impacts the current day (in the selected timezone), or if it is published after 12:00 pm and impacts the following day

  5. Thresholds for minimum unavailable capacity (MW) and unavailable energy (MWh)

  6. Minimum outage duration

  7. Version-to-version change thresholds: minimum changes in unavailable capacity and/or energy required to trigger an update for the same outage

  8. Notifications for all future versions of a notified outages: once an outage matches your filters, you'll be notified of all its future version - this bypasses the version-to-version change thresholds.

Note that there is no limit to the number of rules that can be configured.

Once created, there are two ways to view/receive those notifications:

  1. Via email, you will receive an email for every outage matching the rules configured.

  2. Directly on the Notifications section of the terminal under “Power”.

Under account settings, the “notifications settings” section allows you to:

  • Disable/enable emails notifications for each rule

  • Edit or delete

Navigating through the platform

By clicking on the unit name, you will be directed to the Power/Outages tab, where you can view the history and details of the specific message.

Switching to the Overview tab allows you to explore the plant's historical generation data, overlaid with Day Ahead market prices and past and future availability.

Notification content

The subject of the email is as follows: unit name - fuel type - change in availability

The body of the email is structured with:

  • A text section highlighting key information on the plant and availability level: availability/installed capacity over the outage period

Reuter West Block E - fossil hard coal - new availability 0/282 MW

  • In the event of an update message, a summary of the modifications is provided to quickly outline the nature of the change.

    • For constant duration - shifted by (+/-)x.xd

    • For a decreased duration - shortened by x.xd: start (+/-)x.xd end (+/-)x.xd

    • For an increased duration - extended by x.xd: start (+/-)x.xd end (+/-)x.xd

    • In case duration changes but only start or end date is impacted, the unchanged date does not appear in the summary.

  • A table with version number, start, end, min and max availability. In case of an update of a former message, the table will contain two rows one for the previous version and one for the latest (that triggered the notification)

Availability change notifications

Setup and configuration

To be notified when availability changes are detected, toggle to the Availability tab after you've clicked "Create Notification".

The filters allow you to configure:

  1. Zones to include

  2. Specific fuel types to include

  3. Thresholds for minimum change in unavailable capacity (MW)

Once created, you’ll receive a daily email every morning showing the change since the previous day. You’ll also receive emails during the day whenever availability changes exceed your configured threshold.
