5 October 2026 - Chartering: Distance Calculator

Distance Calculator gives you the distance, duration, and route between ports for a vessel. Use it when you need to know how far apart two ports are and how long the passage will take.

Setting up your route

  • Add each stop your route passes through, in order: search by port, zone, or installation name. Set a start date on your first stop.

  • A stop can also be a specific vessel instead of a port, zone, or installation: search by vessel name or IMO, and Distance Calculator uses that vessel's current position.

  • Each stop also has a Port days field, so you can add time in port to your total duration.

  • For every stop after the first, choose Speed or Arrival from the dropdown: enter either a transit speed or a target arrival date, and adjust the sea margin if needed.

  • Select + Add stop to build multi-leg routes, not just a single origin and destination. Drag and drop to reorder stops

  • Select a specific vessel or a Baltic vessel model so that the its dimensions are factored into the route. If your first stop is a vessel, that vessel is automatically selected.

  • Under Route avoidance, use the Avoid dropdown to avoid the Suez Canal, Panama Canal, ECA zones, or HRA (piracy risk) zones.

Reading your results

  • Total distance (nautical miles) and total duration for the full route.

  • Separate badges showing how much of the route passes through ECA/SECA and HRA zones.

  • The route map, showing the path and waypoints between your stops.

  • A stop-by-stop itinerary with arrival and departure at each point.
