7 October 2026 - New power availability tools, EEX futures, and a DE-LU capacity revision

Written by Maxwell Kahn

A new set of Power data and API updates is live, along with a capacity revision for German gas following an update from Bundesnetzagentur.

Availability at a fixed horizon (D-X)

Two new endpoints return availability as it looked X days before delivery, instead of with today's hindsight. Choose a horizon and an as-of time, and for each delivery day D in your window, you get that day's availability as it stood on D-X, so querying X=7 gives you a full month where every day reflects the same one-week-ahead vantage point.

That's what you need to fairly backtest forecasts against outturn, or track how outage declarations firm up as delivery approaches. Previously, this meant running one asOf query per day and stitching the results together yourself; now it's a single call.

Kpler availability model extended to DE-LU and GB fossil gas

Our Kpler availability model already covered fossil gas for Germany and the UK at country level; it has now been extended to the bidding zones, DE-LU and GB, which were previously limited to raw availability. Querying either bidding zone with methodology=kpler, or no methodology at all, now returns our low/central/high curves.

DE-LU fossil gas installed capacity revised

Following a revision published by the German authority Bundesnetzagentur, we are aligning DE-LU fossil gas installed capacity with their net-capacity-in-operation figure: ~30 GW, down from ~32 GW. Their figure reflects capacity active in the market, excluding grid reserve, capacity reserve, and mothballed units. Effective on Friday, 9 October:

  • Top-down availability (aggregation=topdown, the default) for DE-LU fossil gas will be ~2 GW lower.

  • For comparisons against generation, bottom-up remains the closer reference, since top-down follows official installed capacity including un-trackable units; see our methodology article.

  • Bottom-up availability, unit-level availability, and all other zones/fuels are unaffected. No change to data format, fields, or parameters.

GB half-hourly day-ahead auction

We have now added EPEX's half-hourly GB day-ahead auction, alongside the existing hourly EPEX and N2EX auctions. Since GB runs auctions at different resolutions, a new auctionResolution parameter (auto/hourly/30min) selects which one to read, independent of the granularity of the returned series. Full details can be found in the following documentation.

New EEX renewable power futures

Since EEX's 21 September launch of a new futures suite designed to hedge the price risk created by renewables, we've added them to our API:

  • Top-to-Bottom (TB) futures (Month, Quarter, Year): settle on the spread between the day's highest and lowest prices rather than the average level. TB2, settling on the 8 highest vs. 8 lowest 15-minute prices each day (2 hours for GB), is available for DE, FR, GB and IT. TB4, using the wider 16 highest vs. 16 lowest band, is available for IT and ES.

  • 6-22 Extended Peak Block futures (DE/FR, Week/Month/Quarter/Year): covering hours 6-22 on peak delivery days (Mon-Fri).

  • Base Weekend Block futures (DE/FR, Month/Quarter/Year): covering hours 0-24 on all weekend days (Sat+Sun) in the delivery period.

Pushed to a later release (date TBC) by EEX:

  • 12-16 Solar Block futures (DE/FR): covering hours 12-16 on peak delivery days (Mon-Fri for Week/Month/Quarter/Year, Sat+Sun for the Weekend contract).

  • Solar Weekend Block futures (DE/FR, Month/Quarter/Year): covering hours 12-16 on all weekend days (Sat+Sun) in the delivery period.

JAO D2CF

We continue to expand our JAO coverage: the two-days-ahead congestion forecast is now available for the Core and Nordic regions, complementing our flow-based domain and active constraints data.
