We’ve introduced a new way to analyze flows by allowing users to filter and visualize data based on a vessel’s transit date at key chokepoints, such as the Strait of Hormuz.
With this update, you can select “Transit” as a filter option (similar to Import or Export) to explore flows based on when vessels pass through specific transit points.
This provides a more accurate way to understand movements through strategic routes and to monitor flows around critical maritime chokepoints.
What’s new
Filter flows by vessel transit date
Select Transit to filter flows based on when vessels crossed a specific transit point.
Analyze activity at key chokepoints
Choose a transit location (for example, the Strait of Hormuz) to focus on vessels passing through that area.
Dynamic flow visualization
The Flows graph updates automatically based on the selected transit point and transit date range.
Transit-based data selection
Results include vessels that transited the selected point within the chosen timeframe, enabling more precise analysis of maritime movements.
How to use the Transit Date filter
Open the Flows view.
Choose a transit point (e.g., Strait of Hormuz) in the "via" field. Only one transit point should be used.
Next to Exports and Imports, select Transits
Select the date range you want to analyze.
Note : Dark or spoofing vessels may have their crossing times approximated based on available data such as last known AIS positions and satellite imagery.
