About this release

Full vessel ownership structure data is a now available in Kpler Risk & Compliance. It gives users a complete view of all ownership and management entities linked to a vessel, both past and present. This includes not only sanctioned entities, but also non-sanctioned companies across all key operational layers.

This feature empowers compliance professionals to perform deeper, faster risk assessments and eliminate blind spots in their due diligence process.

This release provides:

  • Full transparency into vessel ownership chains

  • Stronger due diligence capabilities

  • Better regulatory alignment for risk and compliance workflows

Whether you're assessing sanctions exposure or auditing operational affiliations, this update gives you a more complete and confident view of vessel risk.

Feature Description

Expanded Ownership View

Previously, the Compliance tab displayed only sanctioned entities linked to a vessel. Now, the full history of a vessel’s ownership and management structure is available, across six key roles:

  • Beneficial Owner

  • Registered Owner

  • Technical Manager

  • ISM Manager

  • Third-Party Operator

  • Commercial Manager

Each relationship is shown with:

  • Company name

  • Affiliation type (role)

  • Start and end dates of the relationship

Sanction Status Indicators

  • Green: Indicates a non-sanctioned company

  • Red: Indicates a sanctioned company, along with the sanctioning authority

This visual layer ensures quick scanning and prioritization.

Structured Results for Clarity

Ownership entities are:

  1. Grouped by role type (e.g. all Beneficial Owners together)

  2. Ordered by active affiliations (start date only) followed by historical affiliations (start and end dates)

This hierarchy helps users track how ownership evolved over time.

Integration with Kpler API

This ownership structure is available via Kpler’s public API endpoints, making it easy for users to export, automate, or embed ownership data into internal compliance systems.

Upcoming Enhancements

We’re continuing to improve this feature with:

  • Additional company details (e.g., country of registration, addresses)

  • Availability in MarineTraffic, expanding access across platforms
