Kpler is pleased to announce an update to our Iraq fuel oil (FO) export data released on 28 February 2025. This enhancement significantly improves the accuracy of our data by addressing a known issue in the region—AIS spoofing. This change will also have a significant impact on historical Iraq fuel oil exports from January 2022 onwards.

AIS manipulation is a common practice in the Arabian Gulf, where vessels often falsify their positions to appear as if they are loading from Iraq when they are, in fact, sourcing fuel oil from Iran. Leveraging new intelligence, we have refined our methodology to better filter out these misreported shipments.

Please note that while we are confident in these enhancements, the proprietary nature of our methodology means we will not be disclosing specific details about the intelligence or sources behind this update. Please reach out to your customer service representative with any questions.
